Dynamic Distribution: Strategies For Getting Your Film Seen
A masterclass for filmmakers and producers with a film in the post-production stage, aimed at supporting the process and journey of independent films, in order to organise and showcase the film as widely as possible. Providing step-by-step guidance in a comprehensive manner, navigating from the end of post-production through a festival route — which can be personalised by the filmmakers — and offering insights into the distribution of films across diverse environments, with achievable goals for different genres and budgets, maximising the outreach and lifespan of the productions. Panelists will come from a wide range of specializations and disciplines to share tools and techniques that may previously have not been utilized in their distribution plans. It includes documentary, animation, and narrative filmmakers. Presented by the IDA, the panel will share insights from the documentary space which has historically depended more on self-distribution models that can now be leveraged across disciplines. Hosted in collaboration with the International Documentary Association.

Distribución dinámica: estrategias para que tu película sea vista
Una clase magistral dirigida a cineastas y productores con una película en posproducción. El objetivo es apoyar el proceso y la trayectoria del cine independiente, con el fin de organizar y difundir la película al máximo. Se ofrece una guía paso a paso de forma integral, desde el final de la posproducción hasta una ruta de festivales personalizada por los cineastas, así como perspectivas sobre la distribución de películas en diversos entornos, con objetivos alcanzables para diferentes géneros y presupuestos, maximizando así el alcance y la vida útil de las producciones. Los panelistas serán de una amplia gama de especializaciones y disciplinas para compartir herramientas y técnicas que quizás no hayan utilizado previamente en sus planes de distribución. Incluye cineastas de documentales, animación y narrativa. Presentado por la IDA, el panel compartirá perspectivas del sector documental, que históricamente ha dependido más de modelos de autodistribución que ahora pueden aprovecharse en diversas disciplinas. Organizado en colaboración con la Asociación Internacional de Documentales.

Panelist Bio
Bethany Wearden (she/her) is the Fiscal Sponsorship Manager at International Documentary Association. She has over 12 years of experience in artist support and public programming at various organizations, including Sundance Institute, USC Pacific Asia Museum, and Define American, supporting artists and storytellers across disciplines and career stages. Bethany is passionate about demystifying creative career paths and helping artists find the support, resources, and community they need to build flourishing careers. Growing up, Bethany lived in Jamaica, Uzbekistan, Thailand, and Turkey and traveled widely. Bethany spends her free time at the cinema, hiking, or enjoying a National Park.
Diego Nájera is Head of Development and Production at Borderlands Cinematic Arts, the studio founded by filmmakers and MacArthur “Genius” Fellows Alex Rivera and Cristina Ibarra. At Borderlands, he oversees a slate of projects across film, television, and documentary, working to reframe the narrative around the borderlands through visionary storytelling. He served for four years as Director of Narrative Film at Participant, the award-winning studio that pioneered projects at the intersection of art and activism. There, he worked on films including Mounia Akl’s Costa Brava, Lebanon; Christopher Zalla’s Radical; Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Rob Peace; Marc Forster’s White Bird; and the newest film from Academy Award winner Sebastian Lelio, The Wave. He produced the Academy Award-nominated live-action short film Please Hold, directed by KD Dávila. His projects have been recognized at the Berlinale, SXSW, AFI Fest, Palm Springs Shortfest, and have been featured on HBO. He is a Creative Producing Fellow at Sundance Institute and a Project Involve and Producers Lab Fellow at Film Independent. Named one of Business Insider’s 25 Rising Stars in Entertainment in 2023, he holds an MFA from USC’s Peter Stark Producing Program. In 2025, he was selected for Searchlight and Film Independent’s Imaginar Producers Residency. He began his career as a producer and film programmer for the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
Rodrigo Reyes is a Mexican director living in California, and winner of the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship, the Creative Capital Award and the Rainin Artist Fellowship. His films have been supported by the Mexican Film Institute, Sundance and Tribeca, as well as other leading institutions.

Cuenta con más de 12 años de experiencia en apoyo a artistas y programación pública en diversas organizaciones, como el Instituto Sundance, el Museo USC Pacific Asia y Define American, apoyando a artistas y narradores en todas las disciplinas y etapas de su carrera. A Bethany le apasiona desmitificar las trayectorias creativas y ayudar a los artistas a encontrar el apoyo, los recursos y la comunidad que necesitan para desarrollar carreras exitosas.
