Work in Progress (WIP) Latino
GLAFF (GuadaLAjara Film Festival) has supported Latinx and Latin American filmmakers for over a decade through its Work In Progress (WIP Latino) program. In recent years, the initiative has expanded to include BIPOC filmmakers based in the United States, reinforcing its commitment to diversity and inclusion in independent cinema.
The University of Guadalajara Foundation USA and the festival’s industry sponsors make this important initiative possible. Their awards and support contribute to their post-production journey.
WIP Latino has been a launching pad for acclaimed films, including The Dog Thief (El Ladrón de perros) directed by Vinko Tomicic (WIP Latino 7), which premiered in the section International Narrative Competition at the Tribeca Film Festival (2024). I’m No Longer Here (Ya No Estoy Aquí), directed by Fernando Frías de la Parra (WIP Latino 3), premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival (2020). The film represented Mexico in the category of Best International Film at the 2021 Oscars®. Fruits of Labor, directed by Emily Cohen Ibañez (WIP Latino 5), premiered at SXSW (2021), Official Selection in Documentary Spotlight. 499, directed by Rodrigo Reyes (WIP Latino 4), premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival (2020), and it went on to win Best Cinematography for director of photography Alejandro Mejia, as well as receiving the Special Jury Award at Hot Docs. This year, Runa Simi by Augusto Segarra Pineda-Arce (WIP Latino 8) had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, further solidifying the program’s international impact.
GLAFF (GuadaLAjara Film Festival), a través de su programa Work In Progress (WIP Latino), celebra 10 años impulsando a cineastas latinos, latinoamericanos y, en años recientes, ampliando su enfoque para incluir a cineastas de comunidades BIPOC radicadas en Estados Unidos.
Esta iniciativa se desarrolla en colaboración con la University of Guadalajara Foundation USA y nuestros patrocinadores, quienes, mediante incentivos y apoyos, contribuyen a la finalización de los proyectos participantes.
WIP Latino ha sido plataforma de numerosos casos de éxito, entre ellos The Dog Thief (El Ladrón de perros) de Vinko Tomicic (WIP Latino 7), estrenada en International Narrative Competition en Tribeca Film Festival (2024). WIP LATINO 10 SELECTED PROJECTS
GLAFF (GuadaLAjara Film Festival), through the Work In Progress (WIP) Latino program, has supported Latin American Filmmakers for over 10 years. By providing post-production support, WIP Latino helps filmmakers complete their projects. In recent years, the program has expanded its focus to include Latinx and BIPOC filmmakers based in the United States.

WIP Latino 10 will take place in Los Angeles, California, during the GLAFF 15th edition, from November 6th to 8th, 2025.

After a decade living in a convent, Rosa returns to her family’s ranch. She finds a place to call home and explores a natural environment she has never experienced before. She also has to put up with her father, an ambitious man she hardly knows.
Rosa vuelve al rancho de su familia, luego de años de vivir en un convento. Ella encuentra un hogar y descubre un mundo paradisíaco y natural que no conocía. A cambio debe soportar la vida con su padre, un hombre ambicioso y a quien apenas conoce.

1997. Kallpa (12), an indigenous girl from the Andes, prepares for the Winter Solstice Festival, a celebration where the community elects the Ñusta—a princess. Kallpa longs to participate, but cannot, since she was born in the body of a boy.

A decade after her 12-year-old daughter Fátima was murdered in a brutal feminicide, Lorena Gutiérrez sets up camp outside of Mexico’s National Palace, demanding an audience with the country’s first female president. Directed collectively and led by Lorena herself, this visceral portrait captures the intersection of personal grief and political resistance in a country where, according to the United Nations, 10 women and girls are murdered everyday.
Una década después del asesinato de su hija Fátima a la edad de 12 años, víctima de un brutal feminicidio, Lorena Gutiérrez se planta afuera del Palacio Nacional para exigir una audiencia con la primera mujer presidenta de México. Dirigida de forma colectiva bajo el liderazgo de la propia Lorena, esta película es un retrato visceral que combina el dolor personal con la resistencia política, tal y cómo se viven en un país en donde las Naciones Unidas estiman que 10 mujeres y niñas son asesinadas cada día.

While dealing with his mother’s illness, Oliver (7) clings to his aunt Paloma (26), onto whom he projects the fantasy of a new mother. Although their bond grows stronger and stronger, the birds herald an imminent farewell.
Mientras se enfrenta a la enfermedad de su madre, Oliver (7) se aferra a su tía Paloma (26), en quien proyecta la fantasía de una nueva mamá. A pesar de que su vínculo crece cada vez más, los pájaros anuncian una pronta despedida.
