Synopsis
In late 1980s Mexico, eight-year-old Roberta watches her family of seven women fight to save their home from mounting debt, a struggle that reshapes how she sees herself and those around her.

A finales de los 80, en México, Roberta de ocho años observa cómo su familia de siete mujeres lucha por salvar su hogar de las deudas que no dejan de crecer, una batalla que transformará la manera en que se ve a sí misma y a quienes la rodean.

Director's Bio
Originally from Torreón, Coahuila, Mayra moved to Mexico City, where she studied acting in various workshops and worked in the sub-direction of the International Cervantino Festival, coordinating the planning of artists. As an actress, she has worked with directors such as Alejandra Márquez Abella, Alejandro Guzmán, Iván Ávila, Luis Estrada, Amat Escalante, Humberto Hinojosa, Rodrigo Plá, Michel Grau, among others. Narcos: Mexico was the first series in which she participated. In 2018, she wrote and co-directed her first short film, In Lucia’s Skin, which was an official selection at the Guadalajara International Film Festival and at festivals in the United States, Canada, and Cuba, receiving awards in France and Spain. In 2021, she was a beneficiary of the FOCINE Post-Production Support Program for her second short film, I’ll Stay Here. Her first feature film screenplay, Vanilla, was selected by the National Fund for Culture and the Arts to be developed during the writing process, followed by being a beneficiary of FOCINE for the production which started in 2023. Vanilla won in different Work in Progress in 2024 to continue the post-production of the film, which includes Festival de Morelia, GLAFF and Ventana Sur. The world premiere will take place at the Giornate degli Autori.
Originaria de Torreón, Coahuila, Mayra se mudó a la Ciudad de México, donde estudió actuación en diversos talleres y trabajó en la subdirección del Festival Internacional Cervantino, coordinando la planeación de artistas. Como actriz, ha trabajado con la directora Alejandra Márquez Abella y con realizadores como Alejandro Guzmán, Iván Ávila, Luis Estrada, Amat Escalante, Humberto Hinojosa, Rodrigo Plá, Michel Grau, entre otros. Narcos: México fue la primera serie en la que participó. En 2018 escribió y codirigió su primer cortometraje, En la piel de Lucía, parte de la selección oficial en el Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara y en festivales de Estados Unidos, Canadá y Cuba, obteniendo premios en Francia y España. En 2021 fue beneficiaria del Programa de Apoyo a la Postproducción de FOCINE para su segundo cortometraje, Yo me quedo aquí. Su primer guion de largometraje, Vainilla, fue seleccionado por el Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes para su desarrollo durante el proceso de escritura, y posteriormente recibió el apoyo de FOCINE para la producción, que comenzó en 2023. Vainilla ganó en distintos “Work in Progress” en 2024 para continuar con la postproducción de la película, entre ellos el Festival de Morelia, GLAFF y Ventana Sur. El estreno mundial tendrá lugar en Giornate degli Autori.
