A documentary series with unprecedented access to Juan Gabriel’s personal archives, including videos he filmed himself. Across four episodes, this investigation offers an intimate and revealing story about Alberto Aguilera Valadez, the man behind the iconic Mexican music idol and author of hundreds of songs, who transformed his pain into anthems and broke stigmas and prejudices throughout his life. Juan Gabriel: I Must, I Can, I Will takes us from the beginnings of the career of one of Mexico’s most beloved artists to his death, offering an unprecedented and deeply human look at his legacy, which is now part of Mexican popular culture and whose music continues to move millions around the world.

Una serie documental con acceso inédito a los archivos personales de Juan Gabriel, incluyendo videos filmados por él mismo. A través de cuatro episodios, esta investigación ofrece una historia íntima y reveladora sobre Alberto Aguilera Valadez, el hombre detrás del ídolo musical mexicano y autor de cientos de canciones, quien convirtió su dolor en himnos y rompió estigmas y prejuicios a lo largo de su vida. Juan Gabriel: Debo, puedo y quiero hace un recorrido desde los inicios de su carrera como uno de los artistas más queridos de México hasta su muerte, ofreciendo una mirada sin precedentes y profundamente humana a su legado que ya forma parte de la cultura popular mexicana, y cuya música sigue conmoviendo a millones en todo el mundo.

Director's Bio
Visual artist, filmmaker, director, and Mexican producer. Born in Mexico City, she studied Graphic Design at Universidad Iberoamericana. Her debut film, Bellas de noche, received international acclaim and earned four Ariel Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Documentary, Best First Feature, and Best Editing. In 2023, she premiered the documentary La dama del silencio: El caso de la Mataviejitas on Netflix, which was highlighted by Rolling Stone as one of the best true crime documentaries of the year.
Artista visual, cineasta, directora y productora mexicana. Nacida en la Ciudad de México, estudió Diseño Gráfico en la Universidad Iberoamericana. Su ópera prima, Bellas de noche, fue aclamada internacionalmente y obtuvo cuatro nominaciones al Ariel, incluyendo Mejor Película, Mejor Documental, Mejor Ópera Prima y Mejor Edición. En 2023 estrenó en Netflix el documental La dama del silencio: El caso de la Mataviejitas, destacado por Rolling Stone como uno de los mejores documentales de crimen real del año.
