Synopsis
When Sama’s girlfriend blows off their Friday plans, the teen copes with romantic rejection by blasting music in her room. When her dad suggests hanging out, she agrees. Their evening takes an unexpected turn as a message forces her to choose between authenticity and keeping up appearances.

Cuando la novia de Sama le cancela sus planes de viernes, la adolescente lidia con el rechazo romántico poniendo música a todo volumen en su cuarto. Cuando su papá le propone pasar tiempo juntos, ella acepta. Pero la velada da un giro inesperado cuando un mensaje la obliga a elegir entre la autenticidad o mantener las apariencias

Director's Bio
Karina’s films explore identity through the themes of familial love, grief, and sexuality in the Arab-American diaspora. Karina was a 2021 Sundance x Adobe Ignite Fellow and featured in Marie Claire’s inaugural Creators Issue as one of the “Top 21 Creators to Watch”. Her feature script Out of Water was chosen for the Film Independent 2023 Screenwriting Lab. She’s been supported by organizations such as the Jerome Foundation, the Colin Higgins Foundation, the Muslim Public Affairs Council, and the Heinz Endowments. Her coming-of-age short Baba I’m Fine (2025) premiered at SXSW in March. She is currently working on a feature based on her dark comedy short Cousins (2023) which is a Vimeo Staff Pick and featured on The New Yorker’s Screening Room.
Karina explora en su cine la identidad a través de los temas del amor familiar, el duelo y la sexualidad en la diáspora árabe-estadounidense. Karina fue seleccionada en 2021 como Sundance x Adobe Ignite Fellow y apareció en el número inaugural de Creators Issue de Marie Claire como una de las “21 Creadoras a Seguir”.
