Panadrilo

Born in Panamá in 1991, Marcela Heilbron’s journey to become a filmmaker is a multifaceted one. She initially pursued dance and choreography when she left Panama to study at the Walnut Hill School School for the Arts in the United States. Following this, she was inspired to study Anthropology at Fordham University in New York City. This is where her passion for film began to flourish and which motivated her to pursue an MFA in Film at USC School of Cinematic Arts. Her first short film, God Is in the Breath (2019), was in the official selection at Toronto Shorts IFF. After her adventures abroad, she has returned to her roots and is working in Panama where she filmed her latest short Panadrilo (2024), winner of the Best Fiction award at Curtas Vila do Conde IFF. In addition to directing, she also worked on producing Claire Denis’s film Stars at Noon (2022) with Pituka Ortega-Heilbron.

Nacida en Panamá en 1991, el viaje de Marcela Heilbron para convertirse en cineasta ha sido multifacético. Inicialmente se dedicó a la danza y la coreografía cuando dejó Panamá para estudiar en la Escuela de Artes Walnut Hill School en los Estados Unidos. Después de esto, encontró inspiración para estudiar Antropología en la Universidad de Fordham en la Ciudad de Nueva York. Aquí es donde comenzó a florecer su pasión por el cine y lo que la motivó a realizar una Maestría en Cine en la Escuela de Artes Cinematográficas de la USC. Su primer cortometraje, God Is in the Breath (2019), estuvo en la selección oficial del Toronto Shorts IFF. Después de sus aventuras en el extranjero, ha vuelto a sus raíces y se encuentra trabajando en Panamá donde filmó su último cortometraje, Panadrilo (2024), ganador del premio a la Mejor Ficción en el IFF Curtas Vila do Conde. Además de dirigir, también trabajó en la producción de la película Stars at Noon (2022) de Claire Denis junto con Pituka Ortega-Heilbron.
