Macario, an extremely poor villager who has a wife and several children, is dedicated to selling firewood in the town. Fed up with a life of deprivation and hardship, he says that his greatest desire is to be able to eat a turkey by himself, without having to share it with anyone. His wife, a confidant of such a deep desire, one day steals one from a rich family's farm. When Macario is about to eat it, God, the Devil and Death appear to ask him to share it. He only gives it to Death and in return it gives him a bottle of water that cures any illness. He soon earns much more money than the town doctor, but also attracts the attention of the feared Holy Inquisition.
