The 4-year-old orphan of a cartel gunman narrowly escapes death with the help of his aunt, who raises him in the isolated countryside amidst hardship, poverty, and the constant peril associated with his birthright. Entering his adolescence, a rebelliousness awakens in him, and like a rite of passage, he joins the local cartel. As a young man, Sujo attempts to make his life anew, away from the violence of his hometown. However, when his father’s legacy catches up with him, he will come face-to-face with what seems to be his destiny.
Un niño de 4 años, huérfano de un sicario de un cartel, apenas escapa de la muerte con la ayuda de su tía, quien lo cría aislado en medio de dificultades, pobreza y el peligro constante asociado con su origen. Al entrar en la adolescencia, despierta en él una rebeldía y, como un rito de iniciación, se une al cartel local. Ya joven, Sujo intenta hacer su vida de nuevo, lejos de la violencia de su ciudad natal. Sin embargo, cuando el legado de su padre lo alcanza, se encontrará cara a cara con lo que parece ser su destino.

Mexican writer-directors and producers. Collaborating for over 15 years, they have produced two feature length films –The Darkest Days of Us (2017) and Identifying Features (2020)– as well as three short films: Of this World (2010), In Still Waters (2011) and 400 Bags (2014). Identifying Features received awards in Sundance, San Sebastian, Zurich, Thessaloniki and a Gotham Award for Best International Film. Sujo is their third feature film together. A festival darling on the 2024 circuit, it received the Grand Jury Prize for World Cinema at Sundance.

Escritoras, directoras y productoras mexicanas. Han colaborado desde hace más de 15 años, y han producido dos largometrajes Los días más oscuros de nosotras (2017) y Sin señas particulares (2020), así como tres cortometrajes: De este mundo (2010), En aguas quietas (2011) y 400 maletas (2014). Sin señas particulares recibió premios en Sundance, San Sebastián, Zurich, Salónica y un Premio Gotham a la Mejor Película Internacional. Sujo es su tercer largometraje juntas. Uno de los favoritos del circuito de festivales de 2024, recibió el Gran Premio del Jurado de la sección World Cinema en Sundance.
